Friday morning the Lexington affiliate of Susan G. Komen handed out $300,000 in grant money to 13 groups who are working to fight breast cancer. It is an annual event and the money handed out is that raised right here in the community. One of the groups that received a grant helps link women diagnosed with breast cancer to vital resources when they need them most.
This weekend thousands will come together to draw awareness to the number one killer in Kentucky, heart disease. This year the 16th annual Heart Walk has extra special meaning for one Lexington woman, whose life has been touched not once but twice by heart issues. The Heart Walk is Saturday April 21st at Commonwealth Stadium. Activities start at 9 am, and the walk is at 10.
We've all heard the health benefits breast milk has for babies. In Kentucky health numbers show only 56% of babies are breast fed, but now a Lexington business is offering a way moms can help support other moms by donating their extra milk. A new Milk Depot opened in Lexington Thursday that will help make donation easier for moms, it is only second one of its kind to open in the state.
