Not all dietary fats considered bad

Once upon a time, all dietary fats were considered bad.

However, experts now know that not all fats are that way.

Not all fat is created equal. In fact, some dietary fats are critical for a healthy diet.

The key is to separate the bad from the good. Saturated and trans fats are bad fats.

They increase your risk of certain diseases. Fatty meats contain saturated fat, while fried foods and baked goods, often contain trans fats.

If you're looking for good fats, there are four things to look for.

Number one, choose plant-based oils like canola or olive, which contain healthy unsaturated fat.

Number two, trade your butter for a spread that has zero trans fats and make sure it doesn't contain partially hydrogenated oils.

Number three, keep meat and dairy lean.

Number four, dump the trans fats.

Read supermarket labels carefully. Many are now trans fat free.
