Many dentists now turning to 3D technology

From theaters, to video games, 3D seems to be the new craze.

Now, it could be coming to your dentist's office.

Many dentists around the country are already using Galileo's System, which can show a 3D image of your teeth.

The system allows dentists to give patients answers to tricky problems like abscesses and cysts, which are painful, but hard to see without 3D technology.

"We have definitely helped out the second and even third and fourth opinions, because a patient has had a problem with a certain tooth, and a 2D x-ray just isn't showing the information that's needed," Melissa Jenness said.

"We are very excited to have this technology because it takes the guesswork out of dentistry for patients," Dr. Keith Flack, a Minnesota dentist said.

Dentists say the technology gives them a better idea of what needs to be done before a surgery or extraction.

They also say the radiation used in 3D technology is actually less than what's used in a traditional x-ray.
