The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is getting ready to give thousands of flu shots to Lexington residents during an event later this week.

"Free Flu Friday" will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. this Friday, October 14, at the Public Health North Campus on Newtown Circle.

Officials with the health department say "Free Flu Friday" is a special one-day clinic, designed to give up to 2,000 shots.

Along with vaccinating a large number of people, health department officials say the event allows them to test their emergency preparedness.
