Memorial Day means pool time for many, but pools can also be dangerous, and even deadly, if you're not careful.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports there have been more than 100 drownings or near-drownings already this in 2011.
While most victims are kids under five, adults have trouble in the water as well. That's why Olympic swimmer Janet Evans says, we all have to learn how to swim.
"Adults can take lessons.... So the most important thing in keeping children safe is having an adult in the vicinity of the pool that knows how to swim," said Evans.
The CPSC is undertaking the "Pool Safely" campaign for the second year. To find tips on how to keep your child safe by the pool, log onto www.poolsafely.gov.
There are several places in the Lexington area that offer adult swim lessons including Parks & Recreation and the YMCA.
