Postal Service studying possible consolidation of Lexington and Louisville mail processing

The U.S. Postal Service is looking into the possibility of consolidating some mail processing operations in Lexington, with those in Louisville.

Postal officials plan to spend about two months studying the option. They plan to review the impact a consolidation would have, and how much money would be saved.

If the study determines a consolidation would be beneficial, the postal service would then have public meetings on the matter.

Postal officials say the study would also determine if such a consolidation would impact mail delivery times. They also say it would not mean the closure of the Lexington mail processing facility, it would only change some steps of the mail processing process.

Postal officials also mention the volume of mail being processed in Lexington is down.
