Criminals sometimes try to use the mail as an easy and inexpensive way to find victims. Don’t fall for these scams.
Remember all foreign lotteries are illegal and you never have to pay a fee to collect your prize if you are the winner of a sweepstakes.
Never accept money orders or cashiers checks from people you don’t know well. Crooks living overseas often mail Americans counterfeit checks and money orders. They trick innocent people into cashing these worthless pieces of paper and then instruct them to wire the funds to another person or company. These offers may sound legitimate but they are not.
If you are the victim of mail fraud, please report it. Many financial crimes go undetected because people just like you are too embarrassed to come forward and speak up. Remember these con artists are good at what they do and if you don’t report these crimes; others will likely be victimized.
Contact your local post office or call 877-876-2455 to report any postal related crime.
