A little phenomenon is currently running rampant in the racing community. All race fans know about it, and everybody gets to enjoy it almost as soon as the Daytona 500 is finished. I'm talking about "Silly Season".

A little phenomenon is currently running rampant in the racing
community. All race fans know about it, and everybody gets to enjoy
it almost as soon as the Daytona 500 is finished. I'm talking about
"Silly Season". Its in full swing right at the moment. So, again from
atop my turn two asylum, here are some current rumors and happenings
in the silly season world.....

David Reutimann will be returning to the Michael Waltrip Racing #00
car with Aarons being the primary sponsor. I haven't heard yet if
Michael McDowell or Josh Wise will be taking the reins of the #44 or
who the sponsor will be for that car if it is indeed run next year.

Mark Martin is going to Hendricks #5 car to run a full season. A
sponsor has yet to be officially announced. I for one hope he makes a
run for the championship next year.

Caterpillar will be moving to take over sponsorship of the #31 car of
Jeff Burton, leaving the #22 Bill Davis entry.

Casey Mears will be relocated to the #07. I believe that Jack Daniels
will remain the sponsor.

Aric Almirola is going to the #8 DEI car. Sponsor yet to be announced.

David Stremme will be replacing Ryan Newman in the #12 Penske ride.
Alltel remains the sponsor.

Tony Stewart of course is joining forces with Haas to form
Stewart-Haas Racing. He'll be driving the #14 sponsored by Old Spice
and Office Depot. The team will have Chevrolet as the manufacturer.
Hopefully, Smoke won't fall into that dreaded pit that most
owner/drivers seem to find themselves in.

Greg Biffle is in fact staying in the #16 car.

Joey Logano will take the reins of the #20 Gibbs entry. Home Depot
remains the sponsor.

Clint Bowyer is relocating to the #33 Childress car. General
Mills/Cheerios is the sponsor.

Ryan Newman is joining Tony Stewart at his new endeavor. He'll be
driving the #39. No official word yet on a sponsor.

Bobby Labonte remains in the #43 Petty car. Sponsor not known at this
time.

Carl Edwards stays in the #99 with Aflac as the primary sponsor. I'm
hearing too that Subway is leaving Stewart to go with Edwards.

I've heard that AJ Allmendinger is out of the #84 effective
immediately. I've seen a name being thrown around as getting in that
car, but I'm not too sure about it, so I'll just keep my piece on
that.

Reed Sorenson is supposedly moving to the #10 Gillett Evernham ride
replacing Patrick Carpentier.

Scott Riggs is out at Haas since it became Stewart-Haas Racing. No
word yet on where he may be looking to drive.

And that, for the time being, is some of the happenings taking place
in silly season.

Til next time, that's the silly view from turn two.....
