There are special "eves" that make it difficult to sleep. Christmas Eve comes to mind. But any high school football player/fan can tell you that the night before the first game of the season can rank right up there with them.
As I sit here in the Sports Office working on Sports Overtime for Friday I feel some of those familiar butterflies that come with the first show of the season. So many questions running through my head. Did I remember to put tape numbers in for all the games? Did I remember to put all the games in the Scoreboards. Did I misspell anything? Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway? (Okay, that last one has nothing to do with Sports Overtime, but it has been bothering me.)
Basically, I just want to wish everyone a good nights sleep. It is something that may not be easily had tonight. I know it won't be for me. I will run, re-run and run again in my head the average drive times for all of our shooters from their game sites to the station or satellite truck that we will be using. I will worry tomorrow night if they are 10 minutes past when I expect them to be getting in. (It is what I do best, worry.)
So sleep well High school football fans/players. You will need the rest come Friday.
