Six football teams in the mountains remain unbeaten at this point. Who will be the last one to take a loss?
Class A
Hazard (4-0) - The Bulldogs are putting up some serious points. 52 per game to be exact. The Bulldogs can beat you with several weapons, but none have been more dangerous than QB Jon Combs who has thrown 17 touchdowns with only 1 interception.
Next: Home against Corbin
Down The Road: Breathitt County, @ Clay County
Pineville (4-0) - It's been a while since the Mountain Lions were 4-0. This years team is a Senior heavy squad that relies very much on the ground game of Cody Hendrickson and an underrated defense.
Next: @ Paintsville
Down The Road: Estill County, Hazard
Class 3A
Somerset (5-0) - The Jumpers haven't had a State Title game loss hangover that happens to many schools. Erik Manning and Storm Wilson are still one of the best QB-WR combinations in the Mountains.
Next: Home against Casey County
Down the Road: Wayne County, (After Casey County, their opponents are a combined 2-15 on the season)
Pike Central (4-0) - The Hawks' schedule to this point has yet to provide them with a challenge. With that being said, Pike Central has looked very polished. Allan Boggs has over 25 combined touchdowns to this point on the season.
Next: Home against Tolsia, WV
Down the Road: @ Belfry, Sheldon Clark, @ Prestonsburg
Class 4A
Bell County (4-0) - The Bobcats are the Bobcats. Davenport (Cory & Cody), Madon, Hilton, Collett and a great offensive line along with a stout defense make them a great possibility to win a State Title.
Next: @ Rockcastle County
Down the Road: @ Knox Central, @ Soddy Daisy, TN, @ Harlan County
Class 5A
Perry Central (4-0) - The Commodores already have two 4th quarter comebacks and a win over Breathitt County on their resume this season. Kyle Huff has been very efficient at QB (14 TDs, 2 Ints) and has spread the ball around to 3 good receivers including Austin Pray, Darryl Beatty and Jay White.
Next: Letcher Central
Down the Road: @ Clay County, Harlan County, @ Whitley County
As always, support your local teams.
