Day two of the 2014 WYMT Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic may not have had the drama that day one had but several individuals stepped up, helping lead their team to a victory and on to the next round.
The Bell County Lady Cats defeated the Leslie County Lady Eagles 67-43 to advance to Friday's Championship game, where they will meet Magoffin County. Maci Morris paced Bell County with 26 points. Kelli Smith also scored in double figures with 11 for the Lady Cats. Katie Moore led Leslie County with 20 points.
The first boys game of the evening saw No. 1 Knott Central jump out to a quick 11-0 nothing lead over Middlesboro and never look back, winning easily 71-25. Three players scored in double figures for the Patriots, led by Camron Justice with 16. Evan Hall and Chance Cornett pitched in 14 and 13, respectively. Middlesboro was led in scoring by Major Edwards and Tyler Prater, each scoring seven points.
In the nightcap the Hazard Bulldogs and Jackson County Generals battled back and forth for three and a half quarters before the Bulldogs pulled away and held on to win 69-63. Josh Hollan (Hazard) and Jordan Fox (Jackson County) each scored a game-high 20 points. Chris Hudson and Matt Thompson also scored in double figures for Hazard, pitching in 19 and 12, respectively. Zack Lawson scored 19 for the Generals, while Isaiah Collier added 17. The Bulldogs will play Knott Central on Thursday night at 8:30pm in the second semi-final game.
