Beverage group: 18 mayors wrong on sugary drinks
Posted: 11:47 PM - The American Beverage Association says efforts by the mayors of 18 cities to stop food stamps from being used to buy sugary drinks won't make the nation healthier.
This is a look at this year's Apple Bowl from the perspective of Paintsville.
The Paintsville Tigers come into Thursday night's game trying to accomplish something they have not done in nearly five years. That is beat their rivals across the creek in Johnson Central.
The Tigers are having an incredible year though, one that has seen new head coach Jason Kinner instilling new confidence in not only the team but the community as well.
Wednesday night, I spent the evening over at Paintsville for their final practice before the game, and while I was there, I noticed a new sense of Tiger spirit for the Paintsville football program. The team had their weekly dinner the night before the game, but the cheerleaders also showed up to show their support for the Tigers as they prepared for their evening bonfire. Now, I was not able to hang around for that, but I did notice a team atmosphere as everyone hung around to eat and enjoy everyone's company.
Now that may sound lame, but this type of atmosphere has not always been that way over at Paintsville, at least not with the football team. So far Coach Kinner is doing a fine job at showing these kids what it is like once again to win at Paintsville(although it is not far off when they were last over .500. It was back in 2005 when they were 10-3), but more importantly, he is showing them how to become young men.
