After watching the latest episode of Entourage where they visit Joshua Tree, (which, oh by the way is a National Park in Twentynine Palms, California) it led me to think about what some teams and individuals need to contemplate as the football season continues.
Just a quick background, in the last episode of Entourage, Vinny Chase and the boys decided that it was time to make a trip to Joshua Tree in order to make a big career decision in Vinny's movie career. So, I thought it would only be right to title this one Visiting Joshua Tree as the teams and people below have lots to think about. Ocho Cinco:
Lets start with the Cincinnati Bengals.
We should of saw the signs early after Chad Johnson decided to legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco, but as always, we get caught up in the hype. Instead of being more concerned about the team, Mr. Ocho Cinco was looking to draw more attention to himself. Do not forget that in the pre-season he stated that the world was going to see every bit of Dade County in him this season.
If you do not remember, you can watch the clip here:
He is referring to the showboating of the Miami Hurricanes in the early 90s. The only problem is, it is hard to showboat when you only catch 14 balls for 159 yards and only one score, making the Bengals look more like the Hurricanes of 2007.
The Bengals right now have the worst offense in the league ranking 27th in passing and 30th in rushing. Can the Bengals and Chad Johnson, excuse me, Chad Ocho Cinco return back to their true form and turn their season around?Where is the Offense?
The Kentucky Wildcats have been absolutely amazing when it comes to the their defense, especially since they have been battling with injuries over the last couple of weeks, but the Cats now have to start thinking about what they need to do to get their offense up to par with the defense. Right now the Kentucky offense ranks 84th in the entire nation in total offense averaging 336 yards per game. Compare that to Tulsa who averages 596 yards per game and ranks number one in the nation in that category.
Kentucky is fairing a little better when it comes to scoring offense as the Cats rank 53rd with 28 points per game. In order for the Cats to make it through their tough S.E.C. schedule, the offense needs to find their way to the endzone. Just when will the offense become a major factor?
The Real U.C.:
This weekend with mark the 30th time that the University of the Cumberlands and Union College have done battle on the football field, and the 24th year that they will battle for the coveted trophy of the Brass Lantern. Both teams are currently playing superb. The Bulldogs of Union College come in at 5-0 with a N.A.I.A ranking of 11 and the Cumberlands are 4-1 and ranked 16th in the N.A.I.A. Top 25.
This game is guaranteed to be a defensive battle. The Bulldogs may have the fastest defense in the Mid South Conference led by linebacker Willie Williams(57 tackles in 5 games), and the Cumberlands may have the hardest hitting defense in the Mid South led by Brian Abshire(6 INTs and 2TDs in 5 games).
These two teams rank one and two in total defense. Union College only giving up 301 yards per game and the Cumberlands only giving up 359 yards per game. This game is huge as the winner of this game could end up being the winner of the Mid South Conference.Who will win the Battle for the Brass Lantern?
