Parents Just Don't Understand

I have the pleasure to be on the sidelines and on the court each and every week to watch some of the best athletic talent in the mountains. Along with viewing the great athletes of the mountains, I also get a chance to listen to some of the chatter that goes on in the stands.

I have the pleasure to be on the sidelines and on the court each and every week to watch some of the best athletic talent in the mountains. Along with viewing the great athletes of the mountains, I also get a chance to listen to some of the chatter that goes on in the stands.

So with that being said, I have noticed some things while listening to this chatter, and it is not just an Eastern Kentucky thing, it goes on nationwide in every sport and at every level. But there is something to be said about it happening at any level below the college game.

Time and time again, you can hear negative comments being yelled out to players from the stands, whether it is a parent or just a casual fan. I have no problems with yelling at the team to root your team on, but when the comments turn to something negative is when it starts to bother me.

Yes, athletics is and always will be highly competitive and yes, the goal is to win the game. I understand that most people will argue that with sports comes positive and negative feedback. Again, I do not disagree with that argument at all. I just think when it comes to on the field, let the coaches do the chewing out if need be.

This has just been something that has been on my mind for the past few months as I watch more and more games. I am just curious what others think about this topic. I would love to hear what all of you have to say.
