Getting Older Sure Does Hurt

Are your bet years of athletic skill behind you? If so, this is the blog for you.

I don't know exactly when it happened, I just know that it did when I wasn't looking.  My youth and athletic ability have passed me by.

When I was in my very early 20s we used to play pick up basketball every Saturday from 11 AM - 1:30 PM then go in and work a full day selling and moving furniture.  I never understood why the guys who were just over 30 never stayed the full 2 and a half hours.  Now that my age begins with a "3" I understand.

I have played pick up soccer with a local U-19 Rec league 3 teams now.  On Sunday I joined in for a full soccer scrimmage.  On Monday I woke up in some pain in some key areas.  My thighs (and other unmentionable areas) are a bit tight to say the least.  Every run I made, every slide tackle I attempted, I feel with every step I take around the office.

I hope that the pain will soon be a thing of the past when I play on a more consistent basis and my body gets used to it.  Until then, please take it easy on me if you see me out in public and my steps may look a bit funny.  I smile around the office to hide the pain, but's there.

Playing pick up sports with people more than a decade younger than me may be good for my health it surely does nothing for my ego when I realize that my get-up-and-go got-up-and-left a few years back.

I know that I am not the only one this has happened to.  Have you experienced the same thing?  If so let me hear from you.  And for those of you too young to fully understand this... be warned, you will.  Until then, let me catch my breath.
