Coach Cal isn't worried about Louisville game

Coach Calipari wants everyone in Kentucky to calm down about the Louisville game... that isn't going to happen.

John Calipari has had a lot to say since taking over at UK in early April.  I think the most interesting comment that I have heard came when he visited Pikeville.  When asked about his relationahip with Rick Pitino Coach Cal said that he wanted everyone in Kentucky to calm down about the Louisville game.

First off, that is not going to happen.  People across the Commonwealth look forward to that game the way a kid looks forward to Christmas.  Louisville and Kentucky have had a healthy "sibling rivalry" for many years now.  You don't suddenly turn that off.  Besides, the game and all the hoopla that surrounds it certainly is fun.

He also said that they "are not going to recruit against them."  This comment truly surprised me.  If you follow the recruiting scene, many of the players who are interested in one school are usually interested in the other.  For good reason.  Both teams win and both teams feature coaches who send players to the NBA.

He finished by saying that "they're not on my radar."  That seems hard to believe.  When one of the top teams in the nation resides about an hour away, in the same state, and you play on an annual basis, most coaches would at least have some idea as to what is going on.

I understand what he was trying to say.  He has loftier goals than beating Louisville, like winning the National Championship.  But his comments certainly caught my attention (and made me smile).  Anyone else have thoughts on his comments?  Do you think that fans across the Bluegrass state are going to stop worrying about the game?
