This Friday has games that have the potential to be really good... and entertaining. This would be a great week for a Pick 'em contest. There are so many games that could go either way.
#1 Bell County @ #2 Whitley County
They don't get much better than this. #1 facing #2. Both teams line up and smack you in the face. Both teams have great lines. both teams are more athletic than they get credit for. This game could swing back and forth. It also may depend on who makes that one big play late in the game. Bell County won easily 38-8 last season, but don't expect that to happen again. This game has the potential to be great. The last time Whitley County beat Bell County was 2000.
#7 North Laurel @ #3 Corbin
Another Top 10 matchup. North is coming off an ugly 7-6 win over rival South. Corbin comes in off a big win over Danville. North will have to play better this week if they want to hang with the Redhounds. This one will be a ground matchup. Wardrup is tough to stop for North. Caleb Watkins has been running tough for Corbin. We'll also see how Ryan Fritts does in his gradual return to full game action.
Belfry @ #5 Letcher Central
Thei Pirates are 1-2 for the first time since 2001. But don't think that these Pirates can't play. Coach Haywood says they are a work in progress and getting better each week. He also said that the defense needs to improve, especially at the basic concept of tackling. Letcher Central is 3-0 to open the season. The Cougars are averaging nearly 30 points a game, but they really have shown to be impressive on defense. This one will be a good win for confidence for either team.
#9 Sheldon Clark @ Johnson Central
This one is interesting, both for the hatred on the field and off. Sheldon Clark fans are still mad at Jim Matney for leaving the program so many years back. Right or wrong, they feel that way. Johnson Central may be down, but don't count them out. The Golden Eagles will always be dangerous. Sheldon Clark has something to prove after losing to Lawrence County last week. Both teams will be seriously fired up for this one. Should get heated.
Harlan @ Allen Central
It's a rematch of a first round playoff game from last season... and the Rebels want revenge for their loss last season. Coach Hall said that loss "left a bad taste" in their mouths. Allen Central was 7-3 heading into that game and enjoying one of the most successful seasons in school history, but the Green Dragons showed them no mercy, rolling over top of them. This game will be a ground battle (sounds a little familiar). Both teams could use this win for momentum. Keep your eye on Andrew Link (Harlan) and the Crowder twins (Allen Central) in this one.
Perry Central @ Breathitt County
The Commodores want to prove that their 2-0 record (and their 114-6 combined score) are for real. Beating Breathitt County would do. But the Bobcats have something to prove as well. Breathitt County has lost 2 straight by a total of 7 points. The players will be giving it all on both sides. Oh yeah, they also happen to not like each other. A wild one in Jackson is at hand.
Jackson County @ Betsy Layne
Both teams feel like this is a winnable game. That means that they will be going all out. That should make a hard fought game.
Any thoughts on this weeks games?
