The most competitive District in the Mountains (if not the whole state) has to be Class 5A, District 8. At this point in the season, there is a very real possibility of a 5-way tie for first. That's correct. It's not a typo... a 5-way tie!
5 teams could end up 3-2 with Clay County on the outside looking in at 0-5. Here is how it would play out:
Whitley County (2-1)
Lose vs. North Laurel
Win vs. Perry Central
Letcher Central (2-1)
Win vs. Clay County
Lose vs. North Laurel
Harlan County (2-1)
Lose vs. Perry Central
Win vs. Clay County
Perry Central (2-1)
Win vs. Harlan County
Lose vs. Whitley County
North Laurel (1-2)
Win vs. Whitley County
Win vs. Letcher Central
Clay County (0-3)
Lose vs. Letcher Central
Lose vs. Harlan County
If everything happens like I have laid out, 5 teams will tie for first at 3-2. It would then go to a tie breaker. In that case, North Laurel would be in the best shape with Whitley County in the most trouble... as of right now.
All I can say is hang on to your hats and buckle up. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
