All "A" Time

There are few tournaments as fun as the All "A" Classic in Richmond.

Seven teams from the mountains are making their way to Richmond, KY for the All "A" Classic. On the womens' side of things 4 teams make the trek.  Harlan, Betsy Layne, Somerset and Owsley County will all be playing.  The teams range in experience at the tournament.

Somerset is making their 9th trip (with 1 state title).  The Owsley County girls are making their first trip to the All "A" State tournament.  The Lady Owls had lost in the Region Championship game 5 times previously.  I was there on Saturday when the Lady Owls finally got over the hump.  It's hard to describe the emotion that flowed from that team.  There is nothing more fulfilling for us than to be able to share the excitement with the players and coaches when they reach a point that they have been fighting so hard to reach.  "Pure Joy" is the only phrase that comes to mind to describe the Lady Owls reaction.

The Boys side is much the same.  Williamsburg makes their first trip to the All "A" State Tourament while Shelby Valley heads back to Richmond as the defending State champs.  Hazard is there for the 4th straight time.  The last team to win back-to-back All "A" state titles was University Heights in 1998 and 1999.

No matter what happens, as long as our Mountain teams play hard and represent themselves with respect both on and off the court, I will be proud.

Make sure to tune in to WYMT all this week for complete coverage of the tournament.
