The old saying goes, the history books are written by the winners. But sometimes, you have to look at the story, behind the story, behind the story. The story behind the story, behind the story? – Pike Central guard Hannah Thompson's performance in a losing effort goes a long way in creating her own legacy.

The old saying goes, the history books are written by the winners. But sometimes, you have to look at the story, behind the story, behind the story.

So what is the story you may ask? Well that is simple; Belfry defeats Pike Central by one on Saturday night, 40-39.

The story behind the story? – Belfry is able to retake the lead with one minute left to play after being down the entire game.

The story behind the story, behind the story? – Pike Central guard Hannah Thompson's performance in a losing effort goes a long way in creating her own legacy.

So, in this case, a winner might of just emerged from the losing team.

First let me pull a Quentin Tarantino and start at the end, then make my way back to the beginning. Here is the video of how the game ended and here are the series of events that took place.

-       Alexis Howard gets the rebound off of a missed free throw, takes it coast to coast for the score putting the Lady Pirates up 1.

-       The game is thought to be over, but the refs review and put 1.2 seconds left on the clock.

-       Howard goes to the line and misses the free throw.

-       Hannah Thompson comes down with the rebound and calls a timeout with 1 second left.

-       That sets up a last second heave by Holly Harris that is missed and Belfry wins the game by one.

Now to Hannah’s story.

The Pike Central Lady Hawks last made it to the state tournament back in 2007. Haley Ratliff, Kayla Lowe and then, freshman Holly Harris led that team. Hannah came off the bench and added 3.3 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game that year.

The 2009-10 Lady Hawks saw Holly Harris and Hannah in their senior season, looking to get back to state. Saturday night, they had to face a Belfry Lady Pirates team that had already beaten them 3 times during the regular season.

Now, on Saturday night, the Lady Hawks were truly led by both seniors, but it was the play of Hannah that inspired her team all game long. Now, its funny that I use the word inspired here, because I am sure you may not know that Hannah leads her team in devotion before every game.

Saturday night versus Belfry Hannah may not have led her team in scoring, in fact she only had a total of 2 points in the game, but from her enthusiasm, her fight, and her will to do whatever it took on the floor that night was very evident. I mean, she even got knocked out at one point during the game. Her performance was so inspiring that nothing I write here could ever match her performance.

So, now that I've said that, there is another saying that actions speak louder than words. Well here are her actions from Saturday night.

Now, I am not taking anything away from the Belfry’s win versus Pike Central because it was well deserved. I am certainly not trying to take anything away from anyone else on the Lady Hawks team either. I just wanted to point out the play and effort given by one young lady on that given night.
