Gaines just recently broke the state record today (vs. Shelby Valley) for most hits in a career breaking former North Laurel player Ali Ray's record of 318 hits. Gaines also broke (last night) Amber Riddle's (Rowan County) record for most double in a career. That mark was set at 92.

South Laurel pitcher / short stop Emily Gaines has had a stellar career for the Lady Cardinals. Gaines, can pretty much do it all for South. She recently threw a perfect game on the mound versus Rockcastle County. Gaines is also known for her stellar defense at short, but she is more known for her bat.

Currently the Lady Cardinals have a 20-5 record including a 14 game winning streak. One of those wins was against rival North Laurel, and that win marked the first for South over North since April 19th, 2007. That ironically enough was three year to the day, April 19th, 2010.
