Beverage group: 18 mayors wrong on sugary drinks
Posted: 06/18/2013 - The American Beverage Association says efforts by the mayors of 18 cities to stop food stamps from being used to buy sugary drinks won't make the nation healthier.
South Laurel softball player Emily Gaines is having a season to remember. Having already broken the state career record for hits, and the state career record for doubles, the UK signee then goes out and sets the record for most consecutive games with a hit.
Over the weekend she extended the streak to 50 games.
In two games over the weekend, Emily went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI in a 9-3 win over Spencer County. She then went 2 for 4 with 1 home run and 1 RBI in a 3-0 win over Western Hills.
That leads me to another amazing stat. With the three home runs over the weekend, Emily now puts herself 3 home runs shy of breaking the state record for most home runs in a season.
The record was set in 2008 by former Rowan County player Amber Riddle who finished the year with 19.
Gaines currently has 16 on the year (3rd best in the state). For the year Gaines is batting .642 (77 for 120) with 16 HRs, 61 RBI, and 26 extra base hits.
I'll say it now ... Emily Gaines has a very good chance of walking away with the Ms. Softball Award at the end of the season.
