Seventy-five years ago, on May 24, 1935, Crosley Field hosted the first night game in the history of Major League Baseball.

Night baseball was immediately a huge success in Cincinnati. The Reds averaged over 18,000 fans per game at seven night games played during the 1935 season - four times the average of its day games.

Stop and think about what that means now.  It made the game more accessible for fans and shaped the way they lived their lives.  They were able to get home from work or school and turn on the game after dinner.  Listening to the crackling sounds of the game through their Philco Radios as told by Red Barber through the 30s and then Waite Hoyt in the 40s, 50s and mid 60s.

Today was a day that changed lives for many baseball fans... and America as a whole.
