With the 6-0 win over Allen Central Wednesday night, the South Floyd Lady Raiders won their first ever district title in the history of the program.
You would have to go back to 2002 to even find the last time the Lady Raiders even made it to the finals of the district, but back then, it was the 57th district and they lost 13-3 to Betsy Layne.
Before this win, South Floyd was 1-2 versus the Lady Rebels during the regular season, a 5-0 win, and then two loses, both by the score of 2-1.
Wednesday night, the Lady Raiders scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as junior pitcher Ada Gayheart was stellar on the mound.
The Lady Raiders will find themselves in the 15th region tournament for the first time since 2002. The tournament is set to start next week and will be held at Lawrence County high school.
South Floyd is currently 13-8 on the year with a 9-8 record versus region opponents.
