#1 Knott Co. Central meets up with #2 Perry Co. Central in a clash of the Mountain's Top teams

It’s one of the most anticipated matchups in mountains all year long.  #1 vs. #2.  Knott County Central and Perry County Central.

I talked to both teams this Monday.  None of the players I talked to were boasting about how bad they are going to beat the other.  It’s amazing for two schools that are such high profile in the Mountains and have a tremendous amount of respect for each other.

Let’s take a look at the numbers and see why this game could very well be one to remember.

Points Per Game:

Knott Central:  68.4ppg

Perry Central:  65.5ppg

Players Averaging Double Figures:

Knott Central:  Camron Justice (22.5), Zach Davis (14.5) Evan Hall (10.5)

Perry Central:  Jaysean Paige (21.5), Braxton Beverly (14.8), Dalton Cornett (12.4)

Scoring Margin:

Knott Central:  18.4ppg (4th in State)

Perry Central:  17.2ppg (6th in State)

Field Goal Percentage:

Perry Central:  53.3% (1st in State)

Knott Central:  50.8% (3rd in State)

3pt FG Percentage:

Knott Central:  40.5% (2nd in State)

Perry Central:  35.9% (11th in State)

Rebounds Per Game:

Knott Central:  30.4rpg

Perry Central:   29.6rpg

So by the numbers, these two teams are evenly matched and definitely deserving of their 1-2 ranking in the Mountain Top Ten.

However, the matchup I look forward to the most is the one we will see many more times before these two graduate, and that’s Camron Justice and Braxton Beverly.  One’s a freshman, the first player in the Mountain Classic to break the scoring record in a game and a championship game (45) (Matt Day of Buckhorn hit a three just before the horn to give him 47 and the record).  The other is an eighth grader, who knows how much time on the clock is left right before the horn goes off and seemingly hits every shot he throws in with about two second left.  Both run their respective teams to the letter and when these two competitors meet on the floor for the first time ever, this could be a game in itself.  Both have the ability to take over when their team needs it.

Remember, this game will be on WYMT starting at 7pm.  And trust me, you will not want to miss this one.
