Matt Day rewrote Seven Records in this year's Mountain Classic.

They say records are made to be broken.

That saying cannot be truer for Buckhorn’s Matt Day in this past Saturday’s WYMT Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic Championship game between Buckhorn and Knott County Central.

 Here are just some of the records that were rewritten in Hindman:

 Most Field Goals in a Game:

Matt Day – Buckhorn - 16 – Previously held by David Richardson of Knott Central (vs. Paintsville – 1995)

 Most 3pt Field Goals in a Game:

Matt Day – Buckhorn – 7 – Previously held by Tyler Hall of South Floyd (vs. Cawood – 2002) and Clint Stepp – JBS (vs. Bell Co. – 2007)

 Most Field Goals Made in a Quarter of a Championship Game:

Matt Day – Buckhorn – 7 – Previously held by David Blair of Clay Co. (4th Q vs. Corbin 1990), Doug Powers of Pikeville (3rd Q vs. Paintsville – 1997), and Stephen Asher of Clay Co. (4th Q vs. Perry Co. Central 1999)

Most 3pt FG Made in a Quarter of a Championship Game:

Matt Day – Buckhorn – 4 – Previously held by Mark Jason Smith of Clay Co. (2nd Q vs. Knott Co. Central - 1993), Ronnie Grigsby of Hazard (1st Quarter vs. Knott Co. Central  - 1998), Ryan Clem of Harlan (1st Q vs. Leslie Co. – 2006), Josh Whitaker of Bell Co. (2nd Q vs. JBS 2007), and Clint Stepp of JBS (3rd Q vs. Bell Co. – 2007)

Most Points Scored in a Game:

Matt tied the record for most 3pt FG Made in a Half in a Championship Game (5) set by Tyler Hall of South Floyd (vs. Cawood of 2002) and Most 3pt FG Made in the Championship Game (6) also set by Tyler Hall of South Floyd (vs. Cawood of 2002) He also tied the record for Most Field Goals in a Half in a Championship Game (11) set by Doug Powers of Pikeville (2nd Half vs. Paintsville – 1997)
