1922- Walter Hagen scored one-stroke victory at Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, England to become first American-born winner of British Open
1950- Texas 3, Washington St. 0 in first ever College World Series played in Omaha, Nebraska
1971- Philadelphia's Rick Wise pitched a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Cincinnati. Wise drove in 3 of the Philly runs on two homers
Interesting Story from 1967... Jim Ryun, a 20-year-old Kansas University student, led a pack of sub-4-minute miles at the AAU meet in Bakersfield, California. Ryun beat his own personal record and recognized world record of 3:51.3 by crossing the line at 3:51.1. 6 runners followed him under the 4-minute mark. Ryun's quarters (winning by roughly 40 yards) were 59.2 seconds, 59.8, 58.6 and a sprint to the finish of 53.5.
