Remember?

The XFL?

It was a joint venture between World Wrestling Federation Entertainment and NBC.  It only existed one year so I could see how you don't remember.  Let me refresh your memory some more....

Initial ratings were high but plummeted after week one.  Toward the end of the season, the XFL recorded the worst-ever ratings for a prime-time broadcast according to Nielsen ratings.

However, you might remember Rod Smart (well, the name on his jersey anyway "He Hate Me") or maybe Tommy Maddox (that's right, 2002 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Tommy Maddox) he was the XFL League MVP in 2001 before getting back to the big league!  Wait...did you not know he was in the NFL before?  Here you go...

Maddox Blast:  UCLA product drafted in 1st round of 1992 NFL Draft by Denver Broncos...also played for Los Angeles Rams, NY Giants and Atlanta Falcons.  Maddox exited the NFL in 1997 and sold insurance with his father...returning to football in 2000 in the Arena Football League with the New Jersey Red Dogs.  He was invited to try out for the XFL's Los Angeles Xtreme.

Want more interesting tid-bits?

Maddox became the fourth starting quarterback for the Steelers from Louisiana since the NFL-AFL merger.  You want the list right?  (Terry Bradshaw from Maddox's hometown as well of Shreveport; Bubby Brister from Monroe; Kordell Stewart (the man Maddox replaced) from New Orleans suburb of Marrero.

Anyway, the XFL also included such innovations and rules as...

No fair catch on punts, cameras on helmets and shoes during the game, game analysts Jesse Ventura (yes the fhe former wrestler and governor of Minnesota) and Brian Bosworth.

The league champion?  Tommy Maddox's Los Angeles Xtreme defeated the San Francisco Demons 38-6.

And if you didn't remember the XFL before...now you know more than you probably would've remembered anyway!

Check back often for facts and stats, interesting tid-bits and history from all around the sporting world and feel free to ask questions!  Hopefully i will have the answer or will get it for you.
