It's finally here! High School Football kicked off last week, College Football starts Thursday and this evening I had my final NFL Fantasy Draft... so that must mean NFL is close (Thurs. Sept 5th Ravens vs. Broncos). Our not-so-hot-summer has paved the way for fall.. and what is fall without football? It's second nature to me.. the temperature changes, the leaves fall, and football.
Agree to disagree to those to don't appreciate a Friday Night high school football game under the lights... to me there is nothing like it. Last week I was in Knox County for the Pioneer Bowl... the sun went down, the temperature dropped to a bearable level, the lights came on, and "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry was blaring out of the speakers...I decided then and there to stop everything I was doing to take in the moment. The band warming up, the cheerleaders getting the fans ready, coach motivating his team, and all the players of football's past still wearing their letterman jackets. I grew up in Louisville, where high school sports are overshadowed by UK and UL (unless you're Trinity of course). I learned quickly that high school football in the mountains is more than just a game. It's a way of life. Once you understand that...everything else makes sense.
Football. It's here. Get excited.
