If prostate cancer has ever touched you or your family, we want you to join "Sam's Prostate Cancer Free Running Team." On March 31st at Keeneland, hundreds of people will take part in RunTheBluegrass Half-Marathon. Don't let that scare you off. You can be part of a relay, and fast walk or jog about 3 miles. But here's the important part. For each person who registers at http://www.runthebluegrass.org/2012-sponsors-and-partners/sams-prostate-cancer-free-running-team and joins my team, $10 will go to local prostate cancer awareness and education. You will also receive a special race team shirt plus a RunTheBluegrass race shirt (2 race shirts!). And you'll get an autographed copy of our guest expo speaker's book, "Natural Running." You'll have the satisfaction of being part of a group effort to beat this cancer, and make more people aware of it.
This not just for the guys out there. Women are effected by prostate cancer when it hits their grandfathers, fathers, brothers, and sons. I hope the ladies will be a big part of our running team.
I have a personal interest in this. A year ago December, I underwent surgery to have my prostate removed, and all the cancer with it. Since then I've had two PSA tests come back "undetectable." Translated-the doctors think all my cancer is gone. I owe that to annual visits to my Lexington urologist starting in my late 40's because of a family history of the cancer. I hope you'll join me March 31st for a special day of fitness, fellowship, and fun.A big thanks to UK Healthcare and the Markey Cancer Center for sponsoring our race team.
