  • Here Comes Winter Weather! - 14 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I wanted to give a you a quick update heading into the new work week, plus I haven't posted since the middle part of last week. Of course the winds have been cranking all day on Sunday with gusts over 40 miles per hour for much of the day. These winds out of the south really helped to crank temperatures up into the upper 50s for highs Sunday and we haven't seen much drop off after sunset so expect a mild start to Monday. A cold front with an incredible temperature differences on either side is working toward Kentucky so expect drastic changes to begin the week. Just to give you an example, at 9pm Eastern Sunday it was 59 degrees in St. Louis Missouri in the east and 9 degrees in Kansas City Missouri in the west....WOW! A Winter Storm Watch is already posted for much of the Bluegrass for late Monday and into Tuesday, and this storm definitely has potential. (Read Blog)
  • Thursday Looks Interesting - 13 Comments Posted
Hey folks...I hope Wednesday has been a good one for you, and it looks like the active weather of late will be sticking around into Thursday. First things first...as expected we saw a good soaking rain Wednesday and into early Thursday with most locations picking up 1"-2" of rain. It's just what the doctor ordered given the drought situation and it appears now that more rain (along with some wintry weather) is on the way for the end of the week. You know Kentucky weather in "winter"...always complicated/never boring. (Read Blog)
  • A Nice Soaker Into The Mid Week - 4 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...what a wild day it has been on this Tuesday! First the wind and the warmth here in Kentucky, then the moderate to heavy rain (at least for some folks through the early and mid afternoon). As expected a strong south wind kicked up early Tuesday with gusts up to around 45 miles per hour. I know much of my lawn furniture out back go rearranged promptly thanks to the high wind, so that took some work righting that ship. The plus side of the wind though was late morning/afternoon highs into the low and mid 60s in most spots. This felt like the proverbial "heat wave" compared to what we have seen lately. Eastern Kentucky enjoyed it the longest into the late afternoon since the rain held off there. Everyone gets in on the act with a good soaking into Wednesday. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks...Happy Monday to everyone and I hope you survived the bout of wintry weather over the weekend. Ironically we had another spot or two of it this morning as the moisture flow increased from the south, creating a few patches of freezing rain. Luckily it wasn't widespread and didn't last long, and that south wind really took care of the warming things up a bit through Monday afternoon. Even with a mix of clouds and sun, high managed to run up to around 50 degrees through the late afternoon. The warming trend will continue and then some heading into Tuesday. (Read Blog)
  • Winter Weather Advisory Saturday Afternoon - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks...I wanted to post a quick update given the pretty treacherous conditions we saw through Saturday morning here in the Bluegrass and into Eastern Kentucky. The snow snuck in a little earlier than even I expected, and with the ground solidly cold from the last couple of days being below freezing, the roadways got slick in a hurry. This is a classic case of little snow but big impact. (Read Blog)
  • A Chilly Weekend...and Maybe A Few Flakes - 1 Comments Posted
Hey folks...Happy Friday everyone and I'm sure glad the weekend is here. It seems like I limp to the finish line more and more each work week, and this one is no exception. While it hasn't been a horribly difficult week, this consistent cold weather is the pits! I'm all for some seasonable temperatures, especially when it comes to December and the holiday season but I guess jumping into the cold earlier than usual makes the novelty wear off quicker. This is ground we've already covered in previous posts so on we go...lol. (Read Blog)
  • Cold Settles Back In - 4 Comments Posted
Hey folks...a good Thursday to everyone and it is great to be one step closer to the weekend. No big surprise...the cold air is back but at least it held off long enough Thursday morning so that the majority of the moisture could get out of the area, thus keeping the wintry weather to a bare minimum. Trust me I'd rather throw out the possibility of an impact with the morning commute and have it not materialize, then to say nothing about it...lay a quarter inch of snow down just prior to the rush hour and have everyone skating around dumbfounded! • The Cold Air Returns Quickly - 1 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I hope your mid week is going well and that you enjoyed the brief respite from the colder air. It's been a rock and roll afternoon in the office so I'll be forced to keep the post shorter today since the clock is ticking toward the late afternoon newscasts. Winds were gusty as expected...around 25 to 30 miles per hour at times. Despite the mid to high level clouds sneaking in a little sooner than I anticipated, we still managed to make it into the low and mid 50s for afternoon highs so it was a nice change of pace even though it still felt cool with the wind. Don't get used to it since the cold air comes plunging in by Thursday morning. (Read Blog)
  • Milder for Wednesday, But The Cold Sticks Into The Weekend - Post Your Comments!
Hey Folks...Needless to say the month of December has started on quite a chilly note as afternoon highs struggled into the low and mid 30s Tuesday. A small wave of energy moved by just to our north during the afternoon hours, and kept extensive cloud cover and chilly temperatures around the Central and Eastern part of Kentucky. We even saw a few snow flurries during the daylight hours Tuesday, but just as quickly conditions will do an "about face" into Wednesday with milder air coming our way, albeit briefly. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks...Happy Monday everyone and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend. While Saturday was manageable if you were outside (Lexington's parade was chilly but fun) Sunday was pretty miserable with a chilly rain falling all day long. It was a perfect day to watch the NFL and follow fantasy football...more on that later. (Read Blog)
  • Wintry Weather Late This Weekend? - 8 Comments Posted
Hey Folks....Happy Friday to everyone and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I didn't manage to over stuff myself Thursday night at dinner, plus I got a good run in this morning so I feel like I weathered the Thanksgiving dinner storm!!! God bless those of you who were brave enough to get up early and tackle the crowds on Black Friday. I know some folks enjoy it since it's a tradition for them, they simply like to people watch, or it really gets them into the holiday spirit, etc. Either way you have my respect because I know it's quite a chore dealing with the traffic and the crowds. The scary thing is it will only get worse as the days count down to Christmas, and with Thanksgiving falling this year during the final few days of November we are already less than 4 weeks away. It may look and feel like the holidays later this weekend. (Read Blog)
  • Happy Thanksgiving and Enjoy the Pleasant Weather - 8 Comments Posted
Hey folks...happy Wednesday everyone and its getaway day for many of you as the long holiday weekend is upon us. I don't know about you but this is one of my favorite times of the year since this weekend really kicks off the month long holiday season that wraps up 2008. Yeah it's a drag to have to work Thursday and Friday this week but the news, weather and sports don't take a break on holidays, plus it all evens out in the end with each of us in the weather department getting a break during this stretch. Overall it looks to be pretty quiet until the later part of the holiday weekend when another cold shot could spell some wintry weather. I know you are totally shocked given the balmy conditions of late (note the sarcasm there)...lol. (Read Blog)
  • Milder Weather into Thanksgiving - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks....happy Tuesday everyone and for a few lucky souls...your week is almost in the books! While it was a cooler day on Tuesday with a northwest wind in place, we did manage to sneak in a bit more sunshine, especially across Central Kentucky so afternoon highs made a run at 40 degrees in many locations. Overall there are no major changes from the current thinking through the Thanksgiving holiday but the end of the week is a different story. (Read Blog)
  • Another Cold Shot...Then Better for the Holiday! - 1 Comments Posted
Hey Folks....Happy Monday to all and I hope you stayed dry if you were out and about to start the week. As expected the showers moved in ahead of a cold front so to say that it was a soggy Monday...that would be an understatement! Most locations picked up .50"-.75"+ with a few spots seeing around 1 inch. A gusty southwest wind didn't help matters much; except to blow the rain around...lol. Everything is lined up the next few days just as we thought at the end of last week...a quick shot of colder air and snow showers followed by a tranquil and fairly pleasant period through the holiday. • Unseasonable Cold Stretch Continues This Weekend - 4 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...a big TGIF to everyone and how about the early bird snow accumulation Thursday night and into early Friday? For all the snow lovers out there last nights snow was a big gift considering how much trouble we've had getting snow on the ground in any form or fashion the last few winter seasons...let alone before Thanksgiving...lol. Most locations picked up a half inch to 1"+ mainly on the grassy areas, rooftops and cars, although the dropping temperatures did make some roadways slick enough into Eastern Kentucky to give the kiddos a bonus 3 day weekend. Talk about gifts...lol. (Read Blog)
  • Here is a News Flash...It's Cold... - 4 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Thursday everyone and I'm sure a few of you are tickled beyond measure that more cold air has settled into the state (note the sarcasm there)...lol. I also know there are several of you out there that live for winter weather and cold temperatures so you should definitely be in your element now and appreciate the unseasonably cold temps here in November. As expected a front raced across the state early Thursday, so the morning sunshine was quickly replaced by afternoon clouds. Temperatures made a run at 40 degrees by Noon in most spots, but the clouds and northwest wind leveled the playing field the rest of the day. A few flakes are still possible into early Friday with the chilly air sticking for a few days. (Read Blog)
  • It Feels Like Winter Has Set In Early - 8 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...its hump day Wednesday and we are one step closer to the weekend, which is a great thing for all of us. Today was quite an interesting day despite the quiet weather here in the Bluegrass. The bank of cloud cover that moved in during the wee hours of the morning really squashed out temperatures initially, even with the strong south to southwest wind cranking up. Once the skies cleared though Wednesday afternoon...the warm-up was on. We went from 36 degrees at Noon to 45 degrees by 3pm at the airport here in Lexington so once that gusty southwest wind had a chance to work with the mid to late afternoon sunshine, it really helped moderate things a bit. Don't get used to the milder air since additional cold shots are headed this direction in the coming days. (Read Blog)
  • A Chilly Week Ahead - 4 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I hope Tuesday has been a good one for you and that you've managed to stay warm. This whole "early dose of winter" thing has been quite a shock to the system to say the least. It's hard to believe that just 2 short weeks ago we were enjoying sunny days and afternoon highs into the mid 70s...and now here we are...lol. We always laugh about how quickly things can change around here with the weather, but I think it's the honest truth even if it was stretched out over a couple of weeks instead of a couple of days. There really isn't anything earth shattering to come with our weather this week (huge surprise there)...just more of the same with a brief "warm-up" then back the other way we go. (Read Blog)
  • Cold to Stick Around...and the Models Battle Into The Weekend! - 6 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Monday to everyone and I hope you've managed to stay warm lately...not only over the weekend but to kick off the work week. As expected we've jumped head first into winter and it appears that the chilly air isn't going anywhere anytime soon. With a mid level wave sliding through the region today, a strong northwest wind set up the moisture flow off the Great Lakes so scattered rain mixed with sleet was the rule early, and as temperatures drop off tonight we could see a few scattered snow showers and flurries, especially into the highest elevations of Southeastern Kentucky. If you like winter, you'll enjoy the week to come. (Read Blog)
  • Here Comes the Cold!!! - 4 Comments Posted
Hey folks...it's Friday (much more settled than this time last week for me) and I hope everyone has enjoyed the last few hours of "mild" weather for awhile since the changes we've advertised all week long are headed our direction this week. We did manage to see a few peaks of sunshine early Friday but a band of showers developed right along a boundary stretched out across the bluegrass during Friday afternoon so there was not much sun to be had through the afternoon...at least not here in Central Kentucky. Highs reached the 60s in most spots...in fact down in the southeast with a bit more sun a few locations spiked up to around 70 degrees. Man what a difference 24 hours will make! (Read Blog)
  • One More Mild Day Before The Cold Returns - 3 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I hope Thursday has been a good one for you, and to be honest it turned out to be a pretty good day from the weather end of things despite some of the clouds sticking around. Much of the rain got out of dodge by daybreak, so we saw a dry day with even some sunshine breaking out through the mid to late afternoon. Temperatures were pretty good for mid November with highs into the mid and upper 50s. No major changes heading into the weekend...mild Friday with the cold plunging in for the weekend. (Read Blog)
  • Showers and Mild Before the Cold Air Moves Back In - 4 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Wednesday everyone and we are one step closer to the weekend! It actually wasn't half bad today across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Yes it was cloudy, but temperatures worked back into the mid 50s in most locations so it felt pretty good for the middle part of November. The rain was returning out west and down south already through late Wednesday afternoon, and everyone should get in on the act eventually. This back and forth routine with the rain should be the rule through the end of the week before the big changes and return to "winter weather" this weekend. (Read Blog)

Hey folks...good Tuesday to you and Happy Veterans Day to all those that have served or are serving in our military. What an incredible sacrifice these folks and their families make for our country so a big salute on this special day. It definitely was a wet and chilly Tuesday with occasional showers and highs struggling the make it into the mid 40s in most spots. What a difference a week makes for sure...this time last week it's sunny with highs into the low and mid 70s, now it seems as if winter has settled in. Speaking of winter, some wintry weather may be headed our direction by the upcoming weekend. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks....happy Monday to everyone and I hope your weekend was a good one....despite the chilly air. What a shock to the system, especially Sunday with the low clouds, brisk wind, and temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s for highs. Monday was better with some sunshine but still quite chilly. Don't expect to see a whole lot of sunshine through the week as a series of systems should keep our weather unsettled, a bit cool, and definitely wet from time to time...and I won't even start about the "chill" coming this weekend. Hey folks....sorry for the late post but it's been a Friday for sure. Hey everyone...a happy Thursday to you and it feels great that we are one step closer to the weekend. First off I appreciate all the nice comments from Wednesday's blog. Trust me I honestly was not fishing for compliments, I was simply trying to gauge the interest level of what we are doing on here since it's no small task getting this thing written and posted daily. I'm glad it is satisfying everyone needs and I'm sure we'll have plenty to banter about as things begin to cool off real soon. I hope you enjoyed the great weather on Thursday since this will be the last of it for awhile. (Read Blog)
  • November Warmth Continues....For Now - 14 Comments Posted
Hey folks...happy post Election Day to all, and hopefully you haven't been dragging too much Wednesday if you stayed up late Tuesday watching the election returns/speeches. Whether your guy won or not, it was an exciting day overall...people turned out in droves to vote and as a political science minor in college I'm always fascinated to watch how things play out and some of the factors/things that affect voters' choices. The weather was perfect on Election Day and it was no different on Wednesday...literally a carbon copy with cloud free skies and highs into the mid 70s. Soak it up while you can because the promised changes are on the way. (Read Blog)
  • Weather Wins in a Landslide on Election Day - Post Your Comments!
Hey Folks...Happy Election Day and I hope everyone got out to vote, especially with the delightful weather again here in Kentucky. From what I could tell where we voted, the predictions of a record turnout were accurate, although luckily we didn't have to wait any more than about 30 minutes (better than I thought). Heck...they could have had the voting machines outside with as nice as the weather was Tuesday. Once again with all the sunshine, afternoon highs reached the low and mid 70s. I guess you could say the weather was a landslide winner on Election Day. (Read Blog)

Hey folks...I hope everyone had a fun Halloween, a great weekend and a nice start to the work week! It's pretty difficult not to start the week off on a positive note given how wonderful the weather has been the last few days. • Quiet Weather...Just in Time for Halloween - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks...I hope Thursday treated you right, and if you were out and about for any length of time during the afternoon hours the weather should have been enough to lift your spirits. What a gorgeous day! Just perfect for late October and this goes to show what full sunshine (even with the lower sun angle) combined with a southerly wind will do for you. Amazing most locations across the Bluegrass Region and into Eastern Kentucky started out into the mid and upper 20s this morning but temperatures skyrocketed through the day. We are definitely in for a quiet stretch of weather literally for the next week. (Read Blog)
  • Another Cold Night...But Here Comes The Warmer Air - Post Your Comments!
Hey Folks...we are halfway through the work week and today was definitely much better than the last few days all thanks to some sunshine. Despite the chilly start with early morning lows in the upper 20s and low 30s, it was a pretty nice afternoon with all the sun and highs back into the mid 50s. I think we see a carbon copy on Thursday morning with another potential freeze, and then the warm-up is on!!! (Read Blog)
  • Freezing Tonight...Then It Warms Up - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks...I hope your Tuesday has been a good one despite another chilly day all across Central and Eastern Kentucky. As expected the highest ridgetops from Pine Mountain to Black Mountain saw a bit of snow last night and into today. It was another chilly day with highs struggling into the mid 40s again, only this time we at least saw a few peeks of sunshine...a good indication the drier air is not far off. We are set up for our coldest night of the season into early Wednesday but the warm up is on heading into the late week. (Read Blog)
  • Was that sleet falling from the sky?....It sure was! - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks...Happy Monday everyone and boy what a difference a day makes!!! On Sunday we were basking in sunshine and highs in the mid and upper 60s, and then on Monday we are struggling into the low and mid 40s for highs, dealing with lots of cloudiness, cold northwest winds, and yes even some wintry weather! I'll say it again...yes even some wintry weather! I received several calls on Monday afternoon from viewers about some sleet falling in Lexington...this occurring with surface temps in the low and mid 40s. It's all legit I promise since the freezing level was so low. With it hovering around 2000 to 3000 feet, those some of those ice pellets don't have enough distance to change into liquid before reaching the ground, so that's why we had the "wintry mix" of rain and sleet...and all this before Halloween! Hopefully this isn't a prelude of things to come this winter, although it should stay wintry the next few days. (Read Blog)
  • Some Good Rain...and Now the Weekend Looks Good Too! - 2 Comments Posted
Hey folks...happy Friday to everyone and what a way to wrap up the week! For a second there this afternoon I thought the animals were going to line up two by two outside the station with all the heavy rain!!! All kidding aside it was great to see all that rain on the radar and hear it pounding on rooftops across the bluegrass and into Eastern Kentucky. It was pretty soggy most of the day here in Lexington, but took awhile for points to the east to get in on the act. As quick as the rain arrived earlier, it should head out of dodge just a quickly, setting us up for a decent weekend. (Read Blog)

Hey folks...happy Thursday everyone and what a beautiful day it was across Central and Eastern Kentucky. I hope you enjoyed it since we've got some changes on the way to end the week. Folks in Eastern Kentucky woke up to a bit of frost in spots with most locations here in the bluegrass staying into the upper 30s and low 40s. As expected the southeast wind did its job through the afternoon so the combo if sunshine and the wind helped to warm things up into the mid and upper 60s. Now the much needed rain is on our doorstep. (Read Blog)
  • Sunny but Cool....and Here Comes the Rain - 3 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...the week is just cruising along nicely, and the quick break for me yesterday worked wonders. Besides breaking up the week, it was good to get some bonus time with the kiddos since I'm forced to catch up mainly on the weekends. There is no doubt about it...fall is officially here now and I think it's here to stay overall. Wednesday was a prime example...after the frosty start in spots, a brisk east wind kept temperatures in check (only upper 50s for highs in most locations) despite abundant sunshine across the area. I think Thursday will be our nicest day for awhile, as changes are right around the corner. (Read Blog)

Happy Monday everyone and I hope your weekend was a good one. At least the weather cooperated with the sunshine returning early Saturday morning with essentially ideal conditions for mid to late October through the entire weekend. The only fly in the ointment...the chilly air during the early morning hours which helped kick in a few patches of frost in several locations, mainly Sunday morning. It's been a great start to the week with more sunshine Monday afternoon, but changes are on the way...and they are changes which should be of benefit to us all late this week. (Read Blog)

Howdy folks...happy Friday to everyone and once again I'm sure everyone is tickled pink that the weekend is actually here. This week has been a long one, even though I've only been in the office for 2 days. I guess it must be the whole driving back and forth thing to Louisville that just zapped the energy right out of me. I've got just one day for R & R since I'm plugging a Sunday for Lauren since Todd is still honeymooning, so I need to soak up every hour of Saturday...lol. • Some Much Needed Rain, But It Will Get Dry Again - 2 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I hope everyone is having a good Wednesday and what a welcome sight it was to see and hear some rain across central and Eastern Kentucky. When I went to bed late last night I could hear the rain, when I woke up about 5am I could hear the rain, and when I woke up a third time around 7am I could still hear the rain so I was pretty optimistic about a fairly widespread event. Ironically the area of the state that needed the rain the most (southeast) actually got the least (go figure there) but we did get some water in the ground most everywhere. This is a good thing since another dry stretch is on the way. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks...I hope your Tuesday has been a good one and I'm sure you probably think you are seeing things when you look at the radar. Yes it has been raining out to the west of Lexington most of the afternoon and we should be in line for some beneficial rain heading into the mid week. The trick with the "first batch" is that an easterly wind coming around high pressure to our northeast has been eating away at the eastern edge, not to mention having that drying effect (at least earlier in the day) but it look like this time the moisture will win out so happy days are here again hopefully! Hey folks...Can I get a big TGIF right out of the gate??? Am I ever glad that the weekend is finally here, especially after pulling a 6 day week (I'm not complaining, just stating facts). I guess we can take the classic line from the movie "War Games" when the fighter pilot was looking for the phantom Russian aircraft that didn't exist. He radioed back to the General Beringer (Barry Corbin's character) and said "There is nothing out there General....just blue skies!" That is the case here in Kentucky, and that's the way it will be through out the weekend, so this may be the shortest blog entry in history! Just kidding. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks...happy Thursday to everyone and I'm sure many of you had to dust the cob webs off of the jackets early this morning as it finally got chilly enough to really need them. Early morning lows dipped into the low 40s here in the bluegrass with a few upper 30s down into Southern Kentucky. I expect a similar set-up heading into Friday morning. Don't be surprised if a few "cool" spots see some scattered frost in the morning, especially with the clear skies earlier in the evening Thursday compared to Wednesday. (Read Blog)

Howdy Folks...I hope Wednesday has been a good one for you and we just keep plugging toward the weekend. Right on cue, we flipped the calendar to October and suddenly it feels like fall with afternoon highs struggling into the low 60s in most locations. Hey folks...happy Monday everyone and I hope you had a great weekend. Our weather was quite nice to start the week all across the bluegrass and Eastern Kentucky with sunshine and highs back into the low 80s. Don't get used to the warmth as it looks like the summer-like temperatures may be going away for awhile just as September ends and October begins. The big story continues to be the lack of rain and the drought that continues to worsen across the commonwealth. (Read Blog)

I realize it's horrible to "wish your life away" but it's been quite a busy week so it's good to get it wrapped up. We did see a few showers out into Eastern Kentucky (and even a few down around Richmond late Friday afternoon) but overall the stuff was hit and miss as expected given the dry air in place over the Ohio Valley. With the dry ground it's a touch easier to heat things up with the full sun so highs reached the mid and upper 80s once again. This is definitely a taste of the Desert Southwest right here in the Ohio Valley. (Read Blog)
  • I'm back...and nothing has changed! - 8 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Monday and I hope it's been a great start to the fall season, now that it is officially here. If you are scoring at home, the autumnal equinox occurred at 11:44 A.M. Eastern time this morning with the sun lined up directly over the equator. Truth be known it was more like summer today with lots of sun, dry conditions, and highs into the mid and upper 80s. I'm back in the saddle after almost a week, and unfortunately nothing has really changed with this weather pattern. (Read Blog)
  • A Quiet Week of Weather... - 5 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...it's been a delightful Tuesday in our world of weather here in Kentucky and on the surface...in the middle...and on the bottom it looks to be very pleasant and very quiet around here for the rest of the week. If there is such a thing as putting the forecast on "cruise control"...this week may be it. (Read Blog)
  • Ike's gone...and now it gets quiet. - 6 Comments Posted
Hey folks...a happy Monday to all and I'm sure most of you are enjoying the quieter weather to start the week. What a difference a few hours makes huh? Sunday afternoon was nothing sort of amazing with the extreme wind from Ike's leftovers combined with a cold front moving through. At my house, we managed to escape with nothing more than a few branches down, and unbelieveably never lost power during the heart of the event. (Read Blog)

  • Ike set to make landfall...and we should see the leftovers. - 11 Comments Posted
Happy Friday folks...I don't know about you, but I'm glad the weekend is here! The weeks get longer and longer and the weekends shorter and shorter but that's the nature of the beast I guess. Speaking of beasts, Ike is set to make landfall in the Houston/Galveston Texas area late Friday evening/early Saturday morning with a wallop that should create lots of problems, especially along the coastline. • Houston we have a problem...and It's named Ike! - 3 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...I hope your Thursday has been a good one and some of you have had to dodge a few showers as the moisture returned quickly into Central and Eastern Kentucky. Right now everything is pretty much holding serve with my original thoughts of how things would play out into the weekend and with Hurricane Ike. There are a few changes though and at this point...Houston, we have a problem. (Read Blog)
  • A Touch of Fall....and Ike Rolls On... - 7 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...it's been a beautiful Wednesday for most across Central and Eastern Kentucky, although as we discussed yesterday enough moisture lingered down south to keep a few clouds around. Luckily the sun did break out through the afternoon across the Southern counties late in the day. I feel like I've lived today multiple times, just like the movie Groundhog Day but I'll tell you about that later in the column after I get to the task at hand. (Read Blog)
  • A Few Storms to Tease Us...and Ike is Headed into the Gulf - 7 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Tuesday everyone and for some folks it was a really good one considering some decent showers and storms fell, especially into Southern and Southeastern Kentucky. While it wasn't the widespread rain many of us had hoped for (and it really wasn't expected to be), patience is the key here since it appears our pattern will be a bit more active later this week and we could see our best rain chances in a few weeks. Hey folks...happy Monday to all and what a nice start to the work week it has been across Central and Eastern Kentucky. I hope your weekend went well and that the beginning of the week has been a good one for you. It's been high and dry the last few days but that's about to change over the next 24 hours, and this week promises to be an interesting one in the world of weather with Hurricane Ike being the main focus in the extended. Happy Friday everyone, and I'm sure you are tickled pink the weekend is here, despite a shorter work for some. That's always the way it works...the weeks seem long even when a holiday thrown in on the front end. At least many of you get a few days to recharge before we do it all again next week. (Read Blog)
  • Gustav teases...Hanna hangs...and Ike surges... - 6 Comments Posted
Hey folks...it's Thursday and we are plugging along nicely toward the upcoming weekend. I guess for those that had Labor Day off, it feels like Wednesday, although it feels like Tuesday to me having just returned. Gustav has turned into a big teaser for us here in the Bluegrass...just enough moisture to produce a few isolated showers (for now) while the deepest stuff that would really help us out stays off to our north and northwest. Hey Folks....happy late Wednesday everyone and I hope your mid week has been a good one. I'm "officially" back in the saddle at work and even though I thought it would be tough to get back into the daily grind, overall it was a piece of cake. I guess after doing this for a number of years it's easier to get back into the swing of things. (Read Blog)
  • I'm back on Wednesday...and the train cars are lined up in the Atlantic... - 8 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...happy Tuesday everyone and I hope you guys had a great Labor Day holiday. While I'm technically not back in the office until Wednesday, I'm shifting back in the "work" mode quickly as I'm less than 24 hours from being thrown back into the snake pit. I'll have to admit it was nice getting the watch the movements of Gustav at my leisure, instead of being forced to keep up due to work...lol. It's not like I'm going to be at a loss for tropical storms or hurricanes to talk about in the coming days as these babies are lined up like railroad cars on a train track. (Read Blog)

  • The South Wins Big...and it's time to take a break! - 20 Comments Posted
Hey Folks...it’s hump day and what an interesting day it has been across the commonwealth. It was like buying a house today here in Kentucky…it’s all about location, location, location!!! It appears that Southern and Southeastern Kentucky will be the grand prize winners when Fay stops dancing in our area within the next 24 hours. That part of state received a nice soaking pretty much all day long, and that’s great news considering it is the driest part of the state by the numbers. Even if it stayed dry at your house most of today, you should be legitimately happy for that part of the state given the moderate drought there. (Read Blog)

Hey Folks...I hope your Monday is plugging along nicely. I'm sure it's much better for some than others...especially those that managed to squeeze out some much needed rain through the afternoon hours. • It's Hot Out There...and we are still watching Fay! - 18 Comments Posted
Hey folks…I hope your Thursday is going well despite the hot temperatures we’ve had to deal with here in Central and Eastern Kentucky. With the ground being so dry due to the lack of rain lately, it’s much easier to heat the surface up so highs have crept back into the low 90s and that will continue to be the case heading into the upcoming weekend. • Fay Wins This Battle...but the war isn't over yet - 1 Comments Posted
Hey folks...it's hump day and we are one step closer to the weekend, although for the second straight week I feel like Wednesday should be Friday...meaning the weekend can't get here soon enough. We are pretty much status quo with our weather here in the bluegrass...another warm/hot day with low humidity levels thanks to an east to northeast wind. Unfortunately the humidity will slowly creep back in for the late week so with highs hanging around 90 degrees for afternoon highs, the "uncomfortable" factor may climb just a tad. Of course the big story again today is the progress (or in this case non-progress) of Fay along the east coast of Florida. While I may have lost the short term "battle" on the path, the "war" isn't over yet and we still have a fighting chance to see some of the remnants in our region. (Read Blog)
