Police turn to waiting tables in fundraiser for slain officer
4 mins ago - Officers turned to waiting tables as a way to show their support for the family of murdered Bardstown police officer, Jason Ellis.
Once again strong storms roll through eastern KY and leave a person dead. The strong winds were apparently too much for numerous trees in our area and one of those struck a car and killed a person inside. There was a severe thunderstorm warning out for Pike County on a couple of occasions on Thursday afternoon. At this point, I am not sure if the tree was split or uprooted. Just a tragic situation and my heart goes out to those involved!
Mother Nature delivered the heat long before we had to deal with any of the stronger storms of the afternoon. We'll go in order here with the arrival of the heat and then the severe storms.
First, check out where we ended up on Wednesday with the Heat Index.

Those numbers are amazing!
Actual Highs Thursday

Heat Index values were right around 100 for many of us. Then the rain came barreling in and took care of the heat. We'll be hot again on Friday and through the weekend, but overall it will be a walk in the park compared to what we have been dealing with here lately. Upper 80s sounds pretty nice to me.
The severe storms started during the early part of the afternoon for some of us and then kept on running towards the rest of us. Here at the station we were dealing with a powerful storm that knocked us off the air and turned the lights out for over one hour. I had just wrapped up my First Weather when *POW* we were in the dark and sitting close to the emergency lights. Sure this has happened before, but it was a first for me during a newscast!
Here's a link to an interactive storm reports page.
We'll stay dry over the next few days. I'll update you again on Friday night!
