Easy way to prepare for disasters

Chief Meteorologist Shane Smith takes a break from talking about the weather to talk about emergency preparedness .

It's been a little bit since I've done a blog post since the weather has been pretty calm lately.  I figured this would be a good time to talk a little about how to get prepared for the time next time we have severe weather.  Our last round wasn't too bad, but sometimes severe weather can cause extended power outages and problems.  A lot of times you'll hear me talk about on TV about getting prepared.  A great resource for getting prepared for emergencies is www.ready.gov/ .

I would highly recommend checking that site out and making a disaster kit and plan.  Now a lot of people say it's pretty expensive to get a proper kit together, and it really can be.  One way to make that easier to to spread your preparations out over time.  Check out this guide our friends at the National Weather Service at Jackson shared recently.

This is a perfect way to get a few extra items every week to make a disaster kit for a family of 4.
