The Change Has Arrived

I have blogged about it for days now and my friends it has finally arrived. That old change has been knocking on our door for a few days now and it rolled in here Thursday afternoon.

Daytime highs topped out at or around 70 degrees Thursday afternoon. The cold front came swinging our way and knocked the warmth out of the air and began slowly filling it with this much cooler air mass. The warmth is on the outs so if you want to be a part of the new trend you'll have to be prepared for the cooler air.

It looks as though the dry air is working into Kentucky. It hasn't fully arrived just yet, but when it does settle in I think it allows the overnight lows to take a pretty big plunge. This isn't anything uncommon it is just a trip down into the 30s on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Daytime highs stay in the upper 50s or low 60s across the entire 7-Day Forecast. Overnight lows (excluding Sunday morning and on Wednesday morning) generally stay in the 40s.

The water situation got just enough to make the ground realize how much it misses having steady rainfall. All this ran ended up being was a teaser! In general, so far amounts have only reached a tenth of an inch. I expected this, but I didn't want it to happen. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and our prayers focused on the rainfall issue. Especially, with the latest drought data that came out Thursday.

All of our coverage area is now considered in the Severe Drought. A few counties: McCreary, Pulaski, Wayne, Whitley, parts of Bell, Knox, Laurel, and Rockcastle are all in the Extreme Drought. Severe went from 26.2% of the entire state all the way up to 50.7%, so you are looking at nearly doubling its coverage.

The next chance of rain won't be until next week and I'll just tell you... it doesn't look impressive at all!
