Forest fires are going up all over the place and the drought continues for the region. This is just a typical Fall in Kentucky. The drought has become a part of our normal discussion around here over the last couple of years. Pictures like this one have forever been etched in my mind...
I can also remember a few years ago when we were nearing record rainfall all across Kentucky. That was also an extremely cool summer around here... full of rainy days and less than normal sunshine.
A front will begin working all the way across Kentucky tomorrow. The timing now looks to be later in the day. So that means anyone heading out to a football game or a dinner will have some isolated showers to dodge. Those showers will really try to dodge you... for some reason rain doesn't like us! So if you see a shower consider yourself lucky. This front really isn't going to distribute the energy evenly. A lot of the energy will be closer to the low.

Maybe a half inch of precipitation?!?!? Probably not even that!
If it rains enough to get the road you may travel down wet... remember how to drive on a wet road. The last couple of times that it has rained and I have been out and about... people were flying by me. It was almost like they had forgotten how to drive in those situations.
One thing I feel very confident about is the arrival of the colder air! We have a seriously cooler air mass coming back to Kentucky. On Friday, the further east that you are the more likely you'll see highs reach the mid 60s. Places like Somerset and London will likely be held in the low 60s due to an earlier arrival time for the clouds and rain. Daytime highs will dip back into the 40s and my heating bill will jump back into the 100s starting Saturday. The overnight lows are headed for the 30s again. This is the price we pay for getting little to no rainfall! Doesn't quite seem fair! As I have said all week long the highs will drop 25-30 degrees from where they started at the beginning of the week.
Something interesting is trying to show up for next weekend here in Kentucky.... that's all I will say for now. It might be a fluke so I will give it more runs before I start that winter model run courtship.
