Slight Warm-Up... and I Do Mean SLIGHT

It was an extremely cold morning here in the mountains. Every station that I review showed lows in the mid & upper teens.

The cold stuff has moderated some for the coming days. Lows will remain on the chilly side and highs will be right there too, but not where we were. I mean the overall picture for Thursday looks to be Slightly warmer. The word slight is one of the life preservers in weather. I use it mainly for a very isolated chance of rain and here I am using it to describe that our temps will move up the thermometer by only a few degrees.

The set-up on Wednesday looked pretty neat. Far east Kentucky was only in the upper 30s for highs and southern Kentucky showed its warmer nature by sticking in the mid 40s. Not a big difference many would say, but the reason for the difference made that 45 degree reading feel a little warmer. Southern Kentucky had more periods of sunshine and that was the big factor for the higher temps.

This forecast is basically a simple one, but at the same side it has a small blip that makes it a little more complicated than it should be. I could just look at it and say... "No big deal".... but I just can't bring myself to that. Here's the break down... there is a front coming our way. It's weak, but it is a front that will basically erase our slight warm-up. This will be a slight cool down that is experienced on Friday. Now you see why I am throwing the word slight around so much here lately. This isn't the tricky part that I was referring to earlier... this is where the precip chances are reintoduced into the forecast.

The low and the front move right on through eastern Kentucky. Once that low gets a hold of some of the moisture from the lakes it tries to redistribute it right here in our region. At best I am thinking it could be some flurries. The issue I am running into is the fact that the front is moving through with some pretty dry air behind it and that means the moisture will have to work overtime in order to make some flakes fall. All indications suggest that there won't be an onslaught of moisture coming our way so I keep the snow flurry chances pretty low. I am keeping them in the forecast. This won't be a significant winter weather event, it will only be a few flurries at best.

Remember, the GFS likes to iverplay the moisture content a little bit. Well sometimes a lot! I don't think that this will be a major deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Need to hear more from you guys about the chat that I referred to in yesterday's post. So please go right a head and give me some input.
