Lightning strike causes damage to Laurel County church
Updated: 6:55 PM - Like many near tragedies the story of what happened to London’s First Pentecostal Church is described as something that could have been much worse.
How would I define "Bitin' Cold?" That's probably what you are thinking. I would describe it as the kind of cold that takes your breath as soon as you walk outside. Or the kind that feels like someone is biting your hands, nose, fingers, ears, eyelids... whatever you have exposed. That's truly what "Bitin' Cold" is to me. I am sure you can all relate to that and now have a clear cut understanding of such a sophisticated weather term. LOL
In my posts last week I mentioned several times that it would take more time for me to buy into the Arctic Blast. If anything happened from last week to this week it was this... I am glad I waited! Early runs were very agressive with the timing of this airmass. Some had it here for early on Tuesday morning. The last few pushed it towards the end of the week and kept it there in the latest runs. Again, I am gald I didn't jump on the band wagon for the early arrival. If there's is one thing I have learned about forecasting weather it is "Proceed With Caution!" More on the cold later... let's tackle some snow issues!
Snow hasn't been my biggest concern for the forecast this week and it still isn't high on my list. There isn't a lot of moisture available for a significant amount of accumulation. Though I think some accumulation will be possible. There will be two lows come rolling our way this week. The first gets here on Tuesday. The track of this low will keep the bulk of the moisture out of eastern Kentucky. The farther north you go, the higher your chances will get for some decent accumulation. Generally, eastern Kentucky could pick up an isolated dusting all the way up to a possible inch with this first go around. This could cause some traffic issues so please be careful!
Our second go around will look very much like the first.... it will have limited moisture to pack in here. However, if the track changes to some degree then we could have a better shot for the accumulating snow. That's still kind of up in the air. The cold is not questionable! I am certain well see the cold. The magnitude of the cold is still something I question. Though the runs have kept us in the 0-5 degree area for quite some time.
Here's some of the projections.

This is what I am banking on right now. You factor in a breeze at 5 to 10mph and you have some really cold wind chills. The catch is I think that the winds may be higher than that. BRRRRRR
I'll have more later!
