Ky. to receive $6 million from online gambling case
Posted: 06/19/2013 - Gov. Steve Beshear says Kentucky will receive a settlement of more than $6 million from a case involving online gambling.
We all knew that the super swell weather wouldn't last as long as we wanted it to! It's on the way out and it may go out with a thunderous exit!
When talking about severe weather there are so many things to look at to determine if storms will be capable of producing strong storms. I have reviewed all of the model data that I can and I have arrived at one conclusion... WINDY! Sure there could be some severe weather thrown into the mix, but I am awfully concerned about the HIGH WIND WARNING that has been issued. It's just not something you see everyday around here. I have seen so many WIND ADVISORIES, but not that many warnings! Oh yeah, back to reviewing severe weather chances. The necessary ingredients will be there to fire off some good ones on Wednesday.
Let's break this down into two parts. First let's read the official statement from the NWS concerning the wind.
...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 12 PM WEDNESDAY TO 6 AM EST
THURSDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 12 PM WEDNESDAY TO 6 AM EST
THURSDAY.
SOUTH WINDS WILL INCREASE ON WEDNESDAY AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES...
WITH GUSTS LIKELY REACHING 60 MPH AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON...AND
SUSTAINED WINDS NEARING 30 MPH AT TIMES. A LINE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WITH STRONG OR DAMAGING WINDS IS ALSO EXPECTED TO
ACCOMPANY THE COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
HOWEVER...EVEN OUTSIDE OF THUNDERSTORMS...DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE A
POSSIBILITY. VERY STRONG WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST ARE ALSO EXPECTED
TO CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT AFTER THE COLD FRONT HAS PASSED...
BUT THE WIND SHOULD BE DIMINISHING BY DAWN ON THURSDAY.
WINDS OF THIS STRENGTH COULD RESULT IN WIDESPREAD DAMAGE AND BRING
DOWN ANY DAMAGED TREES AND LIMBS RESULTING FROM THE RECENT ICE
STORM. THERE WILL ALSO BE A THREAT OF DOWNED UTILITY LINES. THE
WINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT AS WELL...PARTICULARLY FOR HIGH
PROFILE VEHICLES ON WEST TO EAST ORIENTED HIGHWAYS SUCH AS THE HAL
ROGERS PARKWAY AND INTERSTATE 64.
A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED OR
OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF 58
MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Some wind gusts could even surprise all of us in the weather world... so hang on tight! There could seriously be a period of where sustained winds could hit 40mph or higher for an extended period of time. During the news I made a graphic that highlighted the Big Sandy region as a critical spot for more fallen trees. With the recent damage from the ice storm... may trees are still very weak and probably ready to come down. Winds like this would be hard to withstand! We have all seen how strong trees are toppled when highs winds blow in... so just imagine what could happen in the weakened state?!?! We should all be on the look out for this... just especially those in that region.
Severe Weather
Again, we have been targeted by the SPC with the latest severe weather outlook. The possibility of strong and severe storms exists all across the region. The primary threat will be the wind threat. The normal large hail and tornadoe threats are lower than the normal high winds.

I'll address the cooler temps with more detail after we get through the windy Wednesday!
