Fallen Kentucky marine honored at memorial ceremony
3 mins ago - A Kentucky marine killed in action during the Gulf War is now part of a memorial in his hometown of Versailles.
I was up and at it earlier than normal today. When I walked outside at 8:55am... I still felt a little chill! So I grabbed my lightweight jacket and out the door I went! By the time I got to Pikeville and got out of the car I realized that I didn't need that jacket so I left in in the car for the rest of the day! It was just plain old wonderful out there!
On Friday, I think we'll see more of the same! I have pushed the rain chances out of the picture. There will be rain showing up close to us though. The bulk of it will be falling in states located to our north. Afternoon highs will flirt with 70 and in some locations 70 will be met and passed! For the most part though... highs will be in the mid and upper 60s.
After a couple of days of going back and forth I have finally decided to jump on the widespread 70s for Saturday! These models have been cool over the last few days. Each day has gone a few degrees higher than any data set that I have seen. It's time to just go with the flow and not hold back anymore! Temperatures on Saturday 70-75 all across our region.
Let me share with you an experience I had while traveling along KY 80. I was heading towards Hazard from Prestonsburg around 1:30pm. I hadn't been in Knott County long when I see a coal truck in the eastbound lane. You see quite a few of those while driving on 80 so I normally don't pay any attention to them. This one was different... because all of a sudden I see big chunks of ice come rolling off of the hill and roll across the tarp that the driver had covering the coal. I mean HUGE chunks of ice just falling right there on this truck! The driver probably didn't notice what had happened, but if he had been 5 seconds slower that ice could have cone right through his windshield! I swear to you... one of those ice chunks looked like the size of a fire extinguisher. Point of this story is to be careful when driving through those passes where the ice is hanging out over your heads. These warm temps will bring more of down over the next couple of days!
