Eastern Kentucky Weather

More Severe Weather Chances

Posted: Thu 10:42 PM, Apr 09, 2009

Again, I am forced to bring up the possibilities of severe weather returning to eastern Kentucky. After a nice couple of days we'll see our significant weather chances increase again!

It seems like we can't get through a week without another round of interesting weather coming our way! This is all fine and dandy with me though! I enjoy the challenge, but I'd like a 2 week rest! It has been nearly non-stop since the winter months. It is time for this to happen as we are beginning the battle between the Polar Air Masses and the Tropical Air Masses. The Tropical air is trying to make its way back into the northern states and the Polar isn't going out without a fight!

There you see the average position of the jet stream. It is now shifting out of the southern states and working through the everywhere else! It eventually makes it all the way back to Canada and that's when we reach the height of Summer. Basically, this means that the coldest air is kept dammed up in the northern most sections of this planet.

The battle between the cold and warm air will continue for several more weeks!

That battle continues on Friday. Showers & storms will ride along a frontal boundary and swing into Kentucky on Friday.

I am going to try something a little different. I am hoping that the image below will update long after I have posted it to this site. It will keep us up-to-date on severe weather chances plus radar data. Though if you want a to check out a really cool radar app... CLICK HERE

SPC Products Overview

We are under a slight risk for severe weather on Friday. That means organized strong or severe storms could come pressing our way. Just keep it right here on wymtnews.com or sign up for a Twitter account and if severe weather breaks... I will attempt to track storms LIVE through that as well. Here is my profile on Twitter... make sure you add this one because there are two out there... but one is an IMPOSTER! Don't be mislead!

Temps will only take about a 10-15 degree hit this go around. Unlike earlier in the week when it was more like 35-40 degrees. The first part of your Saturday will feature some rain, but the second half of the day should be all clear. Easter is also looking great for the Sunrise Services and the Easter Egg Hunts!
