Winds Will Be Picking Up Soon & Blowing Rain Our Way

The first solid chance of rain this week is about to enter Kentucky. A frontal boundary will ignite some showers & storms all across the commonwealth on Friday.

Before we get to deep into where we are going let's look at where we have been. It was without a doubt... the coolest widespread morning we have seen in a while. Many locations dipped down into the low 40s and I even saw a couple of upper 30s.

The temps were chilly all over eastern KY! That won't be the case for Friday morning though. Well... at least not as chilly! Most lows will only fall into the mid and upper 50s. This is actually the range we should be in for this part of October. As I mentioned in my precious post  "On the nose of the next system we'll find a brief warm punch of air. The punch will keep temps pretty mild for Friday morning. I think most of us will only bottom out in the upper 50s. The southerly winds will bring this taste of the milder air. Remember, normal lows are in the mid 50s so this will only seem mild compared to where we have been. As for the daytime highs... well... it looks like the clouds & rain will keep our temps in the mid & upper 60s. An isolated 70 degree reading cannot be ruled out."   LOL... I always like quoting myself.

An approaching cold front will spread moisture toward us on Friday. The line of showers & storms appears like it will arrive early on our Friday morning an could be completely out of the region by the evening hours.

The timing is extremely close in both images. This is Friday afternoon. There are some other differences, but overall I think these two have a great handle on this situation.

The showers and storms that we see will only be the beginning. Once the front passes us by the winds will begin to pick up quite a bit. Areas closer to the surface low will see wind speeds 30mph+ and Kentuckians might see sustained winds around 20mph with gusts even higher! The bulk of this will happen on Saturday. So if you are planning to head up to Commonwealth Stadium to see the Cats & the Tide... you might need a jacket just to keep the wind off of you! Other than the wind our Saturday looks fine.

Remember, we have several radar sources on our web channel. I am just including this one for your leisure... you know... so you won't have to leave the blog so quick!

Rain or shine we'll be at the Apple Festival in Paintsville on Friday so make sure you come and see us if you are in town!

C-Ya Bye
