Still Looks Wintry

Monday's post was just a teaser! Now we'll keep looking in to the rain/snow potential that arrives here this weekend!

Once again... before I go into too many details on the wintry stuff let's get into the what's coming over the next few days. There have been a few storms systems scooting by to our south this week. The first barely even spread any moisture into Kentucky on Monday. The second will bring showers to us on Wednesday! The second round will also keep temps held down into the 40s during the afternoon hours on Wednesday. I call that a very raw day! Temps will be warm during the overnight and begin falling as the rain does the same!

That's enough of the easy part of the forecast... let's look more deeply into the fun stuff!

I mentioned two areas of low pressure above. There is also a third one! This one will swing by to our south and bring rain for Thursday & Friday. As it begins to move up the east coast of the United States it will begin to usher in much cooler air. At the same time there will be some left over moisture around the area. This low will have pieces of energy that circulate around it and that leads to the enhancement of the precip. I don't want you thinking that we are going to get some monstrous snowfall. I just don't see that in the cards. There a few factors that will prevent the snow from accumulating too much... ground temp & rain/snow mix just to name a couple. It just looks very likely that we'll see some mixed into this whole mess!

The image below is the GFS on Saturday morning. The areas of pink indicate where the chances of the snow will be located. This has looked very similar in the last few runs that I have seen.

Highs will be very cold all day long. Another day of the cold rain with the snow mixing in the higher elevations as the day wears on!

The image below is another look at the GFS, but this time we are looking at the afternoon hours. The pink is mainly situated where the higher elevations are located.

Here's a look at how temps are playing out for Saturday morning. This will also add some back-up to why the system will be throwing us a rain snow mix.

This is the cold stuff that will really rock our worlds! Well this early in the season at least.

Temps will recover going into next week. This round of the cold and wintry stuff will only be temporary!
