Let's focus on the really nice stuff first! Our weather pattern stays pretty calm over the next few days. Temps stay above normal through the weekend and even into parts of next week. It will really be comfortable around here. Fri-Sun temps climb and climb... until they reach the max and close in on 70 before falling little for early next week. A weak disturbance will come wondering into Kentucky late Sunday. That's what takes the real warm stuff out of the air.
This would be a gret weekend to get outside and throw up your Christmas lights. It could be one of the last couple we have for a while. I encourage you to get out there and get it finished! If you are like me and you want to wait until after Thanksgiving... you may be in store for a cold shock!
That's what I am here to discuss... as I am putting the final touches on my long range winter forecast... it may be the weeks leading up to winter that I will miss with my winter forecast. No... I won't miss the forecast...lol... I will miss the timing!
It looks like a great shift in the overall pattern will be coming very soon. It's actually looking like next weekend this change begins to get close. That's why I am encouraging you to do your Christmas stuff this weekend because the cold isn't that far away. We might have another decent weekend, but we are watching a ticking time bomb of cold air. A couple of weeks ago I highlighted (on the air) that the really cold air had retreated well into Canada. That's where the truly cold stuff has remained for a couple of weeks now. This has allowed us to enjoy some really nice weather. The nights have been cool, but not as cold as they could have been if that air was in town. This shift that I am referring to is exactly what is needed to get that old pipeline of cold air running back into Kentucky.
I am probably stepping way out of bounds by even mentioning this so early, but I figured that since this is the big game... why not hunt it? This is probably two weeks away from happening, but it is out there and ready to come home to the mountains!
Coming up over the next few days I will talk more about this. Just remember that our warm days are numbered!
