Eastern Kentucky Weather

What A Weekend... Part 2

Posted: Mon 10:02 PM, Nov 16, 2009

We had our selves another outstanding November weekend here in Kentucky. Daytime highs around 70 and plenty of sunshine! I don't quite think we'll be able to make it again this coming weekend though.

Let me first say that I didn't spend the weekend golfing or doing anything outside. I slept late on Saturday and got up and went to see REO Speedwagon, Styx, and some other guy I had never heard of because I don't watch American Idol. Bo Bice? Let me check on the spelling of that... OK it's fine! Anyway... It was a great show. I took some pics with my phone but they just kept turning out blurry. Oh well... that's the way that goes!

If you weren't at the concert in Pikeville you were probably enjoying the nice weather that we had out there. Unfortunately I think our luck may be running out on the series of nice weekends.

The first game player of the week is an area of low pressure that has gotten away from the main flow in the atmosphere. It's a "cut-off" low. There aren't any winds to guide  the low along or to speed up the forward motion. So it sits and spins. That will keep clouds and a chance for rain around through most of the week. I don't think we'll see any major downpours or anything like that. Just the constant threat of rain over the next few days.

You see the low sitting right over Missouri on Wednesday. Notice how above it there are lines that run really close together. That's the flow we need to get in here to put it on the run... (did you like my very small REO reference there...lol) This will allow the low to hang out with us for a few days. You can also see some really cold air starting to dig into the Pacific Northwest. A sign of things to come? Perhaps!

Another wave of energy looks like it will roll in here from the Gulf and spread more rain into our area by the weekend. This will knock those great temps down by a few degrees.

There is still something that is bothering me about the week of Thanksgiving. I won't go into many details right now, but let's keep our eyes open through the middle parts of next week. The data has stayed pretty consistent, but it is still more than a week away. I'll just say this... if this comes to pass... going to Grandma's for Turkey Day may not be a very easy thing to do! This can change... we'll follow it through and I will keep updating you!

C-Ya Bye
