Earthquake hits Russia's Far East
13 mins ago - A powerful earthquake in Russia's Far East sent out tremors that were felt for thousands of miles.
The winds howled for most of Thursday. Luckily, they weren't quite as strong as they were on Wednesday. I don't think we could have taken another round of winds like that. Winds really made the air temps toughen up quite a bit. The Wind Chill or "Feels Like" temps were breathtaking. I know most of us have seen much colder, but like many of you... I am not acclimated to the really cold stuff just yet. I will get there... I hope! LOL
With the recent mess of a storm that we had I really didn't have much of a chance to go over some of the forecast data with you guys. That's OK because that's all the rest of this post os going to talk about.
When I was looking past this big player... the blozzard maker this week... I saw some chances of snow for the weekend and there is still that slight possibility. Nothing like it could have been though. Temps are looking a little warmer and that could mean that we'll see mainly rain with some snow mixed in during the early stages of the system. The leading edge of the moisture creeps into Kentucky by late Saturday night and that's where the chance of some snow shower activity will be mixed in with the rain.
GFS Sat Evening GFS Sat Night

The GFS is picking up on the change over here late on Saturday. It won't last long since we'll have some milder air pushing into Kentucky, but we wil have the wintry stuff for a little while. So what ends up happening on Sunday is mainly a rain event.
Temps will spike again during Monday & Tuesday of next week. The next cold air outbreak will be settling back into Kentucky and it could feature another decent round of wintry precip. This will be another quick change from rain to snow and the cold air will move in rather quickly once it gets going. The image below shows you what I am seeing at this point.
GFS Tues PM

The change begins here. The GEM isn't showing quite as much moisture so I will wait a little while and hopefully some of the data will get together. That way we'll have some more guidance... remember that's all these models are... "Guidance" everything else comes from the gut!
