The very fringe of our coverage area is where most of the troubles began. In those locations it was common to see 4, 5, 6, or 7" of rain. There were other locations in KY that ended up with around 10" for the weekend. Don't forget that just last weekend we had some really good downpours associated with what was more of a severe weather weekend. Then it rain until Tuesday and that just kept those top layers water filled! It all adds up!

Even in the areas that didn't pick up the huge amount we did see some troubles with mudslides and flood prone spots saw what they are named for... being flood prone!

The biggest issue was the training! I mentioned this before the event happened and it was the huge factor! The heavy rain rolled over the same real estate over and over again. When you fill up a bucket with water and you keep putting water in what happens? It keeps spilling out! That's what happened here with these folks. The water kept coming and there was not time to pour some out or in this case to see the waters recede!

In other weather news... a Tornado was confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

A TEAM...COMPRISED OF PERSONNEL FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
AND WAYNE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT...SURVEYED DAMAGE IN AN AREA
ONE MILE SOUTH OF BETSEY IN NORTHEAST WAYNE COUNTY. BASED ON THEIR
FINDINGS...IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY AN EF2
TORNADO.

DAMAGE...NUMEROUS TREES DOWNED. ALSO...PART OF ROOF BLOWN OFF OF
BRICK HOME...AND THE CORNER OF AN OUTSIDE WALL COLLAPSED.


The next few days will stay on the dry side and give all of these folks time to recover from whatever it was that Mother Nature threw at them.
