US unemployment aid applications fall to 340K
17 mins ago - The less volatile four-week average ticked down 500 to 339,500. That's close to the five-year low.
It has been a back and forth battle these last couple days debating on whether we'll see any snow at all on Christmas. I have just about ruled out even a few flakes!
Sad... I know!
NAM Christmas Day

This is as close as the moisture gets on Sunday with the NAM.
GFS Christmas Day

The GFS is a little more agressive with the moisture... but again... this is as close as it gets!
So far December has been one big disappointment when you compare it to the last couple of years. By now we had already seen anywhere between 10" and 16" and we certainly weren't wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts.
Look at these temps over the last 4 years. The temps you are seeing are the mean temp for each month. The average daily temp.

This year has obviously been a warm one!
As far as snow is concerned... this December is struggling!

These totals are for how much snow fell and not how much was on the ground at the same time. This year is pretty much non-existant! Sure there are a few more days in the month... but I really don't seen anything that would get us anywhere close to what we saw these past two winters. If we are lucky something materializes next week and we could be close to 2008. BUT THAT'S A STRETCH!!!!!
I also got a hold of some new long range data from the CPC that might put a hurting on my winter forecast.

This basically indicates temps are going to be much warmer over the next 3 months.

It will be wet though... just not wet with snow!
I am not thinking we'll go through winter completely untouched by Mother Natures magical flakes... I'm just saying that it might not be a terrible winter from beginning to end. This is just some data to take into consideration. I am not changing my overall winter forecast just yet. I am simply reviewing any data that I see and keeping it in mind!
