Fall Arrives A Few Days Late

The temps we experienced on Monday reminded us all that Fall is here! These temps were actually too cool for the beginning of fall. Our normal highs for the part of fall are in the 70s.

The weekend featured some highs and lows. Saturday was awesome!!!! Highs were in the upper 70s and low 80s. This made for a great day to get out and really enjoy the outdoors. Once Sunday arrived... I realized that Fall was really here! Mother Nature was going to make sure that Fall wasn't cheated out of anymore days. Check this out...

The graph shows how highs have dropped since Friday. Roughly 30 degrees cooler in most areas when you look back at Friday.

The 50 degree highs will be short-lived! We'll be back in the 70s for most of this work week.

Another cool down will be coming by the time the weekend arrives. This weekend will be the first weekend of October. That means that the first taste of truly cool air is upon us.

Look at these dates.

Median dates for the first occurrence of freezing temperatures for selected locations across eastern Kentucky:

It won't be long now!

Now for some quick fun before I respond to some comments!

Over the last several weeks we have been bringing back past news, sports, and weather anchors to fill their old posts. So far... we have had two former weather folks come back and do weather during the 6pm shows. I took pictures with each of them... but I forgot to put one up so now I'll put both of them up for all of you to view.

Tony Brown was the Chief Weathercaster from the mid 90s up to the turn of the century. When Tony ended his weather career I was in my 1st semester of college.

Terry West was with us from 1993-1996. When Terry first started doing weather I was in the 6th grade... LOL

Good times and good people. We'll have plenty more folks stopping by over the next few weeks. Some faces I am sure you all know very well.

Now for your comments:

Posted by: Alan Yeah winter is on the way! happy for that ofcourse. I was reading the almanac yesterday and it shows average temps and precipitation for 2010. What is your view on the upcoming winter? Id sure like to hear it.

So, I'm wondering when you are going to post your winter weather predictions. You made some pretty accurate predictions last year!

Alan & Anonymous in Hazard... I will really start looking at more data when November gets here. I have been going over some other stuff to get the ball rolling... but it's still too early for me to make a call! I'm pretty new at the seasonal forecasting so I like to get everything I need before making any determinations. LOL

Hey Jim. I was just wondering if you have heard anything about this "earthquake" that is supposed to hit Johnson Co. on Friday the 24th? Just wanted to see if you had heard anything lol...comment back please! :)

Rebecca... I did read about it on topix! The folks over there were pretty concerned about that. We had numerous calls and emails regarding the earthquake. I'm not sure if someone truly had a bad feeling or if they wanted to play a terrible joke. Either way... whether you believe it or not... it was in the back of everyone's mind who read or heard about it! I was in London at the time the event was supposed to happen and if there would have been one that strong in Paintsville... I would have really felt it down there. We are all still here and the world keeps on spinning! ;)

That's all for now!

C-Ya Bye
