Here We Go Again

Posted: Sun 8:55 PM, Jan 16, 2011

A brand new week is here and more wintry weather is on the way. This go around it looks like we'll see rain, snow, and some ice!

Over the next couple of days the pattern is expected to get pretty wet. It all starts with rain and makes a change to snow by Tuesday.

Before we break this down... check out this image that ReJeana Rowe sent in from Grapevine, KY (Pike County)

Maybe you have seen it before... I hadn't and I laughed a lot!

Let's break it all down for you folks.

On Monday it looks like the moisture will creep in during the first part of the day.

GFS Early Monday                      GFS 7am Monday

The pink is snow and the blue is freezing rain.

The GFS brings a round of light snow and freezing rain to the area. This part of the system will be brief and then we'll see it all change to rain.

Tuesday evening the rain begins changing to snow.

GFS 4pm Tues.       GFS 7pm Tues.     GFS 10pm Tues.    GFS 1am Weds.

This is pretty much what I have been thinking for a few days. Accumulations should be generally light from this round. 1" or 2" will certainly be possible. It's the system that comes later in the week that might include more snow.

The late week system will have more potential. Too early to make a call for snow fall. So we'll just review the late week system. The GFS snowfall forecast looks like this...

These are two different runs and NOT MY FORECAST. This is guidance for the late week snow.

I'll continue to watch and update as the days roll by this week. This system has all kinds of potential. Once this first round works out of the region we'll have a much clearer picture of this storm. I'll have more updates coming your way!

C-Ya Bye
