This is also an anniversary of a significant severe weather outbreak across the Deep South. I read this report from the Associated Press on Friday.

ATLANTA (AP) - Most of the victims of last year's epic tornado
outbreak in Alabama had at least one thing in common: They knew the
storm was coming.

A year after the onslaught of dozens of twisters killed at least
250 people in Alabama and more elsewhere in the South, federal
researchers are completing a study of who died and where they were
when it happened. Among the conclusions so far: Nearly half of the
people who died had been advised to take shelter. Indeed, most of
them did.

But many of the tornadoes were so fierce that few structures
were able to withstand them.

Unlike in other tornado outbreaks, the largest group of people
who died were in single-family houses - not mobile homes - the CDC
analysis found.

The folks that were in the paths of these storms knew what was coming and most  took shelter. That's what I took from this article.one of a few things. The SPC, NWS Offices, Local TV stations and national news sources had been talking about this for days. Similar to our lead time going in to the March 2nd outbreak here in east KY.

The point is... the message worked! People knew the storms were coming, but the storms were just too strong. A lot of people lost their lives... it was a very sad day!

i know that many of you probably get tired of seeing us hit the air with what is known as "Wall-to-Wall" coverage. The reason we do it isn't because we want to... trust me I DVR several shows on different networks and when there's an alert outside of our area and it covers up my show I ge just as mad as you do. Then  I remember why they are doing it and why we are doing it... to prepare you! By staying on the air and keeping you up-to-date minute-by-minute you can see exactly where that storm is going and when it will get there.

I know there are a lot of options for you when choosing your source for weather information. I bet in the iPhone and Android app stores you can find 100+ and not to mention other media guys and gals. So we appreciate you choosing us... even when the storm isn't anywhere close to your home.

We feel that everyone in our region deserves a fair shake. From the lowest populated county to the highest. We are on the air for you! I don't like talking for 4 straight hours anymore than some of you like to listen... LOL
